I have suddenly stopped having "Agent" and "Editor" buttons in the top right of the toolbar in cursor?

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

I have suddenly stopped having “Agent” and “Editor” buttons in the top right of the toolbar in cursor?

These where great, i dont see any reason why i have lost them, there was no update to change them (as far as i can see). I do have a horizontal arrow icon, that seems to do the same thing, but it is not very usable being in the wrong place, and moves when you click it.

I know there is a key command E on mac, i guess i can learn to use this, but its still not so good.

am i missing a setting i have changed? is it a bug? has it been removed?

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Having the same issue. What’s going on?

Hey, thanks for the report. This isn’t a bug - in recent versions the “Agent | Editor” tabs/buttons were replaced with a small arrows button in the top-right corner.

You can switch views with that button or the shortcut Cmd+E on macOS (Ctrl+E on Windows/Linux). Rolling back to the old tabs isn’t possible right now - there’s no setting to revert.

Details: "Agents | Editor" tab-switching UI is missing

Can you confirm that Cmd+E works for you in 2.1.47? I’ll pass your usability feedback to the team.

It works but it would be really great if we could get the option for those buttons to reappear, if possible

Hey! We also added this icon to switch layouts to align with other layout icons in the product.

I see the 2 arrow button. However, it’s behavior is not consistent.

In Editor Mode:
:white_check_mark: Switch to Agent Layout

In Agent Mode
:cross_mark: Switch Agent Side

In both cases, it shows the shortcut Ctrl/⌘ + E which does in fact switch between layouts. But while in agent layout, the button just switches the agent side instead of switching to the Editor Layout.

I’m having the same issue. When in agent mode, cmd+e is the only way to get back to editor mode. Really unintuitive.

What they’ve done is really a disaster. Don’t they test the GUI before doing a release? Now how are we supposed to know whether we’re in agent mode or editor mode? The same button has two different behaviors depending on the mode, and there’s no way to know which mode you’re in. Who is going to give us back the time wasted having to adopt a different workflow just because someone thought it was better, without testing it or asking the community what they thought?

If you’re in editor mode and click the two arrows on the right, it switches to agent mode, and if you click the two arrows again, it just changes the side of the chat window. To go back to editor mode, you have to go to Settings or press Ctrl+E, but it’s still not very clear which mode you’re in.

same to me.
I try to change to Edit Layout, then it seem that layout changes, but is header tab “Agents” is still shown as active. In addition, SQL server queries stopped to work and the Command Title Bar has disappeared, can’t find how to active it again… totally ■■■■ and a whole morning down the drain

Have you tried using the keyboard shortcut to switch layouts? Although annoying, I believe it is totally possible to do everything from both layouts.

SQL server queries are surely unrelated? And think how many mornings you have saved using Cursor?! WT■!

Silly response. “Think how many mornings you have saved” and i pay out my arse for that privilege.

When in editor mode, the icon switches to agent mode:

In agent mode, it doesn’t, only re-configuring the layout to mimic edit mode.

In addition, CMD + E is shown here to switch agent side, but still correctly toggles between Editor and Agent Layouts like normal. Clicking the button and using the shortcut has two entirely different functions.

Is it intended that the UI lets you go to agent mode, but not the other way around. Feels like an oversight. I only found this out as it forced me into agent mode this morning and i had to google how to get out.

same

For me cmd+E just resizes the side panels on each side but does not really switch to Agent Mode…

Same problem here. This is no button on my side to switch between agent mode and editor mode.

+1 - same issue!
