I tried to sign up for educational status with this account - however my account ends in edu.ac.cy. I messaged [email protected] and a chatbot replied that I was trying to contact through a non-edu account. Then another account from Cursor emailed me (Michael Truell) asking why I did not purchase Pro pricing, and I said I was trying to enable the educational pricing. I never received a reply from either account.
In the website, it says my account cannot be verified for education with the current emailâŚbut it is literally my academic account.
Steps to Reproduce
Try to apply for educational pricing with an .edu. email rather than an .edu

Happens the same to me , i tried reaching to [email protected] numerous times and got the same answer that i was reaching out from an non â.eduâ email and i confirmed that i was using the â.eduâ email . I havenât been reached out to by anyone else though .
@mechanicarts Currently, they only accept .edu domains for educational pricing. Many EU students with non-.edu academic emails (like yours) are unable to access the student discount. Unfortunately, youâll likely need to wait for them to expand their verification system to include international academic domains.
Thatâs correct, while SheerID does support international student accounts. I believe Cursor configured their specific verification program to only accept .edu domains at the moment rather than using SheerIDâs full international verification features.
I used to verify with SheerID for GitHub Copilot, so now it just takes one click. Maybe SheerID has started rejecting international students? Also, it looks like the student discount might not even be available anymore?
actually they almost closed the discount because there are so many posts about this topic. Just, wait for staff to comment here, if no one then like I said âclose student discountâ.
I think they are prioritizing price and documents, student plan is not really a priority. I think we have to wait for Cursor to stabilize before fix student plan @@@
well i just feel many of these things are 1 engineerâs 2 week sprint is all. 30 people is still small, but at the revenue they make, I feel thatâs not my problem as a consumer to subsidize this stuff. i feel the agenda here certainly is not QoL or service user focused, but on larger unseen issues, which is fine, but how many dollars til it becomes like âcan i do 2 or more thingsâ lol
Well, considering Iâm asking for the free version of something, even if Iâm going to be a paid customer later on, I canât ask for things as a âconsumerâ. It would still be pretty nice to be able to use it as a PhD student with minimal programming knowledge though.
So should we consider this the status quo for Cursor? Non-US students not going to get student discount status and we shouldnât expect any official communications?
