Student Verification Issues

I am also getting issues with ID verfication as the people above. Getting the same error message as the screenshot posted by Connie of “We had trouble validating your ID. Please contact SheerID Support.”

Hi Cursor,

I recently got verified by Sheer ID as a student and I proceeded to activate Cursor Pro via the email I got from them and saw the discount at that time. After I put in my payment method I got an error stating “Your payment method is not eligible for a free trial. You can still upgrade to a paid plan and continue using Cursor.“ It then rerouted me to cursor’s normal website and I didn’t get the Pro plan instead I’m still on a free plan. I have tried to re-use the link before but it doesn’t give me a discount anymore (it’s full price), and I tried to go through the student request again but I’m getting an error stating I’ve already used my free pro discount for my account (as a reminder, it didn’t work since my payment threw back an error). How can I get the student discount? I got a message from your support team to try a new payment method, but I can’t do this since I’m not even able to see the discount anymore.

Hi Cursor Support Team,

I’m a current graduate student (US citizen, US-based, etc) and need immediate access to Cursor Pro under the student program. I’ve registered with my .edu email and repeatedly submitted my student ID and passport, but SheerID verification keeps failing. I have a time-sensitive academic project and cannot wait several days for resolution. Could I please get urgent assistance with getting my account verified?

Hi, I’ve submitted my US driving license twice as the requirement, but it still showed ‘error’. I believe my uploaded photo was easy to recognize. Could I please get urgent assistance with getting my account verified?

Hi Cursor Support Team,

I’m a current graduate student at a Canadian university and need immediate access to Cursor Pro under the student program. I registered with my .ca university email and attempted to verify through SheerID multiple times. The system allowed me to start verification, but it failed after the ID stage, and I’ve now exceeded the verification attempt limit.

Could you please urgently reset my verification attempts or manually verify my student status so I can access Cursor Pro?

Same problem as everyone else here. I even tried to contact SheerID support where they told me they will respond in 3-6 days. Now that it’s been 6 days and I still haven’t got any update back from them.

I’m trying to get the Cursor Pro student offer and I’m stuck in a loop.

  • Date of attempt: August 11, 2025

  • Flow: Logged into Cursor and the Forum with my .edu student email. Started SheerID verification.

  • 1st attempt: Rejected.

  • 2nd attempt: I received an email: “You’re almost there! Click the following link to finish verifying your Student status.” I clicked the link within 5–10 minutes, but it said the link was invalid or expired. I waited ~30 minutes and tried again - still invalid/expired.

  • After that, trying to restart verification shows:
    “Verification Limit Exceeded - We’re glad you’re enthusiastic, but it looks like you’ve already redeemed or attempted to redeem this offer.”

  • I never completed verification and never received the offer.

  • I emailed SheerID and Cursor in August but haven’t resolved it.

  • As of September 23, 2025, I still get the same “Verification Limit Exceeded” message.

I’m logged into Cursor and this Forum with my .edu student email as requested. Happy to provide any other details by DM if needed.

Hi,

as everyone else in this thread, I have tried to verify as a student for 2 months now and never managed to succeed with any government ID, driving license or student card. I have contacted the SheerID 5 times and they cannot help.
What are we supposed to do?

@condor I’ve tried to verify my ID through SheerID by uploading my drivers license but it’s failed each time. I’m now no longer allowed to verify my ID as I’ve tried to many times. Is there any way I can bypass this to upload my student ID or passport?

I am currently attending US based university. However, the verfication limit exceed message keeps popping up even though I never redeemed it. I have contacted Sheerid 4 times. However, every time I contact them, the only reply I get is that it is on Cursor ai’s side to process it not sheerid. I also contacted cursor ai 2 times. However, they claim that it is sheerid’s responsibility. I have been dealing with this matter since June 2025. I hope you fix it, please.

I attend a US based university, with an email that ends with .edu,

Provided valid and active

  1. In State Drivers License
  2. Passport
  3. Birth certificate

Still getting that SheerID is having trouble validating my ID. My documents are scanned in, in addition to trying to give raw photos, both have failed. SheerID has stated they cannot assist.

@Anon9 SheerID won’t help, Cursor points to SheerID and claims there is no significant issue (“only a small fraction of users is affected”). And here we all are; waiting for nothing.

Hello! I have the same issue with Student Discount Application. I have verified my student status with SheerID. However, I cannot apply the discount to my account (this account). When I click the “Apply Discount“ button in the email, it only leads me to a page where the loading spinner keeps spinning. The SheerID staff said this is an issue from Cursor since they have successfully verified my student status. Please help, thanks!

  • You have a limited number of verification attempts, so please proceed with care.
  • Avoid modifying photos or scans of documents, as any alterations may disqualify your submission.
  • If you have not already, please contact SheerID for verification issues or if you encounter a “Limit Exceeded” error.

For those who recently faced the “Apply Discount” issue but have already passed student verification: we have implemented an improvement to our system. To claim the discount, please log into your Cursor account associated with your student email, click the “Apply Discount” link, and you should be redirected to Stripe with the discount visible. If you are still unable to apply the discount or it does not appear, please tag me and I will assist further.
