Grok Bot (Windows 0.44.0): Authentication error persists after update, logout/login, and cache clear

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Grok Bot

Describe the Bug

In the Grok Bot desktop app, sending a chat message fails with:
Authentication error
If you are logged in, try logging out and back in.
The app UI still appears signed in (signedIn: true), but chat requests fail.
Request ID: e65c9cfa-2b6c-495a-9dff-79348f44a4ef
This looks similar to:

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Open Grok Bot on Windows.
  2. Confirm the app shows signed-in state.
  3. Open a bot chat and send any message (e.g. “hello”).
  4. Authentication error toast appears above the input.

Expected Behavior

If the app shows signed in, chat should work. If the session is invalid, the app should clearly ask for re-authentication (and recover after a fresh sign-in).

Additional Information

Already tried (no fix):

  1. Updated Grok Bot to latest (0.44.0)
  2. Sign out → Sign in again in Grok Bot
  3. Cleared browser cache/cookies for cursor.com and x.ai, then signed in again
    Checks that look healthy:
  • Direct connectivity to *.cursorvm.com succeeds
    (curl.exe --noproxy "*" -I https://test123.us10.cursorvm.com → HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found, Server: awselb/2.0)
  • DNS for test123.us10.cursorvm.com resolves
  • Local app data includes gateway-descriptor.json
  • App status shows signed in
    Notes:
  • This does not look like a “Can’t reach your computer” / network-block case.
  • Cursor IDE itself is usable; the issue is specific to Grok Bot chat auth.
  • Please check whether my account session / bot computer association needs a server-side refresh.

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Hi @oyagen Thanks for the post. I’ve reset your Grok Bot machine from my side, can you try again and let us know if this persists?

Hi, thanks for the reset!

I tried again just now and it’s working — the Authentication error is gone and chat responds normally.

Appreciate the quick help!

Hello i have the exact same issue
Im using via grok sub.

All good, ended up re-installing grokbot app and working now

Hi, I’m experiencing the same issue with Grok Bot 0.44.0 on Windows.

The app shows me as signed in, but every bot—including newly created bots—returns “Authentication error” when I send a message. Signing out and back in, and reinstalling the app, have not helped.

I saw that resetting the Grok Bot machine on your side resolved this issue for another user in this thread. Could you please check my cloud machine’s authentication/session and apply the appropriate fix? Please preserve my existing bots and data.

Thank you.

Hi, I’m having the same issue with Grok Bot 0.44.0 on Windows.

My status shows signed‑in, but all bots (including newly created ones) give an “Authentication error” on message send. My Cursor is working normally, while the bot keeps failing. I’ve attempted sign‑out / sign‑in and app reinstall, without success.

I saw another user in this thread had their problem fixed by resetting their Grok Bot machine on your end. Could you please review my cloud machine’s auth/session and apply a fix?

Thank you.

I have the exact same issue but can’t get this fixed; is there a working fix now?

Hi @kevinn I have the same problem, can you help me?

I am having the exact same issue. Reinstalling and logging out and back have have not solved the problem. I understand you can reset it on your end? Please do, if so. Thank you!

Hi @kevinn, I’m experiencing the same issue on Windows with Grok Bot 0.44.0. The app shows me as signed in, but messages to every bot fail with “Authentication error — If you are logged in, try logging out and back in.”

I have already fully restarted Grok Bot, signed out and back in, uninstalled it, and reinstalled the latest version. The problem still persists.

Could you please check my Grok Bot cloud-machine authentication/session association and perform the appropriate server-side reset? Please preserve my existing bots (CoCo and Pixel) and their chat data. I can provide a Request ID or additional diagnostics if needed.

Thank you.

Im having the same issue

Hi @kevinn, I’m experiencing the same issue on macOS (Apple silicon), Grok Bot 0.44.0.

The app shows me as signed in, but I get “Authentication error — If you are logged in, try logging out and back in.”

I’ve signed out and reauth’d multiple times, and reinstalled 0.44.0 from the official download. The error returned immediately after reopening.

Could you check my Grok Bot cloud machine’s authentication/session and whether the reset discussed here applies?

Please preserve my existing bots, conversations, and data if possible. I can provide a Request ID or additional diagnostics if needed. Thanks!

@kevinn I have the same issue on 0.470 on mac os. Can you please fix it for me as well?

Hey @kevin I have the same issue on 0.470 on mac os

@kevinn
I have the same issue on 0.47.0 / win11.
Please reset Request ID:8d21a4a0-828f-4050-a579-badf00876a54

Hey @kevinn Im facing the same issue on my end as well. Request ID is 5913cb9b-13b3-446f-bc3a-94d13d5265cc

I’m facing the same issue- can you help me as well?

Hi @kevinn, I’m experiencing a closely related Grok Bot authentication issue on Windows 11.

In my case, browser authentication completes and redirects back to Grok Bot, but the desktop app remains signed out. Clicking Sign In again shows:

“Cursor sign-in was not completed. Please try again.”

This has been happening for 5+ days on Grok Bot 0.44.0.

I have already reinstalled Grok Bot, cleared/renamed AppData, cleared Cursor/xAI cookies, tried incognito authentication, and restarted Windows. Nothing has changed.

I created a separate Bug Report, but it was automatically moved to Account & Billing and appears to have been hidden/unlisted, so I’m posting here because this looks like a related backend authentication/session issue.

Could you please check my Grok Bot authentication/session/machine association on the backend and reset it if appropriate?

I can provide account information privately if needed.
