`Unknown plan` issue means Cursor does not work

Now, using a Claude API key is not working, I get:

Agent and Edit rely on custom models that cannot be billed to an API key. Please use a Pro or Business subscription and/or disable API keys. Ask should still work.

When I log in to Cursor - The AI Code Editor I see:
Unknown Plan [Current].

Steps to Reproduce

• Use Cursor
• Select any Claude model (with own API key enabled in Cursor settings)
• Get the message above

Expected Behavior

• It works

I’m experiencing the same. Everything was fine and then the next moment I started getting the same error.

Also, on my Cursor dashboard, it shows On Demand Usage Disabled and if I enable re-enable (it was enabled already) it, refresh the page and check again, it’s disabled again.

Same issue here. My Pro plan in the dashboard currently shows as “Unknown Plan”. I was working fine until a few moments ago.

I was working normally and all of a sudden I have same issue. I see “Unknown Plan” in my dashboard but I’m a pro user.

Also I can’t use the agent mode even if I’m not using an API key but I get this error:

I’m having this same exact issue, and it seemed to have happened about the same time as you. Maybe there’s something on their backend that got messed up. There’s no incident or outage reported here yet https://status.cursor.com/

The difference is I wasn’t using my own key, I was on a pro plan.

Can reproduce. Requesting a model agent worked briefly, then Cursor Settings switched back to free plan. Seems to be an auth/session persistence issue. No paid plan in session means cursor falls back to free plan guard rails.

I’m having issues with the plan too — it keeps switching back and forth between the “Pro plan” and the “Free plan” randomly. It started bugging like that a few minutes ago

I am also facing same issue. Frequently It shows free and then paid plan. Please fix it

Yeah this is a problem, its happening periodically, something is going wrong inside their servers
